On April 21, 2022. The European Commission has proposed a new regulation on general product safety. The proposed regulation will repeal Council Directive 87/357/EEC and Directive 2001/95/EC. Here is the highlight:
This regulation requires that only safe products shall be placed or made available on the market. A product shall be presumed to be in conformity with the general safety requirement when:
The obligations of manufacturers, authorized representatives, importers, distributors, economic operators of distance sales and online marketplace are mentioned, which include, but not limited to, preparation of product technical documentation (kept for 10 years), label contact information and products name and other action on unsafe products.
Besides, this proposal regulation also harmonise the risk assessment of food-imitating products.
Other requirements like market surveillance, Safety Gate rapid alert system are also mentioned in this proposal.
