On 11 September 2020, Italy has published Legislative Decree No. 116 of 3 September 2020. According the Legislative Decree No. 116 of 3 September 2020, Article 3, packaging shall be labelled with (1) material information and (2) waste collection information. The material information shall indicate nature of packaging materials used based on Commission Decision 97/129/EC, for purposes of identifying and classifying packaging. The waste collection information shall be labelled to facilitate collection, reuse, recovery and recycling of packaging, and to provide consumers with proper information on final destination of packaging.
According to Italy Law No. 15 of 25 February 2022, the latest compliance date for Italian packaging manufacturers and importers is 1 January 2023. Packaging that has already been sold and does not have label or otherwise labelled before 1 January 2023, may still be sold until stocks last.
