The Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision announced the results of its quality supervision and inspection for shoes in the first half of 2012. This spot check inspected 41 batches of sample produced by 40 enterprises while 6 of them produced by 6 enterprises were found to be unqualified.

This spot check was conducted according to "GB 20400-2006 Leather and fur-limit of harmful matter", "QB/T 1002-2005 Leather shoes", "QB/T 22756-2008 Leather Sandals", "GB/T 15107-2005 Athletic footwear", "HG/T 2017-2000 Sports Shoes", "HG/T 2018-2003 Casual", "QB/T 2955-2008 Casual Shoes", "QB/T 2880-2007 Children’s leather shoes". The key item inspected on these samples were free formaldehyde, banned AZO dyestuff, sole loading, shoe flexing, sole abrasion, upper pull out strength, shank and heel hardness, heel attachment, appearance (main item) and label.

The main unqualified items were appearance (1 batch), sole abrasion (1 batch), heel hardness (1 batch), shank hardness (3 batches).
