In July 2012, the Ministry of Industry of Indonesia had signed a regulation No.72/M-IND/PER/7/2012 that regulates with new requirements for babies and children clothing to comply with National Standard of Indonesia - SNI 7617:2010 Requirement of Azo dyes and Formaldehyde content in fabric for babies and children clothing. The regulation will become mandatory 6 months after the regulation is signed, i.e. 1st February 2013.

SNI 7617:2010 is implemented on fabrics for babies and children clothing up to the age of 36 months and fabrics for children clothing over the age of 36 months that have direct contact with the skin, made of woven and/or knitted fabrics from various kinds of fibers and/or their blended fibers.

The standard requires that dyes containing banned aromatic amines listed in amino compound group III (MAK Germany) should not be used for both groups; and requirement of “zero” formaldehyde based on SNI ISO 14181 part 2 (result less than 20 ppm will be reported as not detected) applied for babies and children clothing up to the age of 36 months. While requirement of 75 ppm applied for the other group.
