In April 2023, the EU REACH regulation on the restriction of microplastics was finalized. It is likely that the regulation will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union in the second half of September and will enter into force 20 days later. The materials of various consumer products are closely related to plastics, and a considerable number of consumer products, especially toys, may contain microplastics (e.g., glitters). The relevant European Toy Associations have issued early warning guidelines to their members. In this seminar, Intertek will analyze the details of the EU proposal to restrict microplastics and explore ways to avoid the risk together with some of the Toy Association guidelines and Intertek's extensive laboratory experience.

Another hot topic involves cross-border e-commerce. The new EU GPSR was released on May 23. Compared with the previous directive, the new regulation not only controls goods traded in the EU, but also targets remote sales. All kinds of consumer goods (including toys) sold in the EU through cross-border e-commerce channels also fall under the scope of GPSR control.
